Telling us

Email corrections@homesteadinggear.com. The most useful message names the page, quotes the sentence, and says what the correct information is and where it comes from. You do not need all three — the page and the sentence are enough.

If a safety instruction on this site conflicts with current guidance from a government agency, an extension service or a standards body, say so and we will treat it as urgent rather than as a queue item.

What we do about it

• Safety claims are checked against the primary source first, not against another web page.
• A wrong number gets fixed everywhere it appears, not only where it was reported. A claim on this site frequently exists in several places — the visible text, the structured data, and the underlying product record — and fixing only the reported one leaves it live.
• Corrections that changed a conclusion get listed here, not silently edited. Typos and broken links do not.
• Where a defect could recur, we add a check for it rather than relying on remembering.

Corrections made

1. 2026-08-31 · /best-water-bath-canner, /best-canning-supplies

   Three buy links for water bath canners resolved to DEWALT masonry drill bits.

   Repointed to the correct Granite Ware canners after verifying the listings by title and stated capacity. The wrong link had also concealed two errors in the surrounding text, which were corrected at the same time: the pot was described as a 12-quart while its stated capacity of 7 quart jars is a 21.5-quart figure, and it was priced under $40 when it costs $85.72.

2. 2026-08-31 · /best-vacuum-sealer, /blog/homesteading-gifts-guide, product data

   A chamber sealer was described as the only one under $200 while it sold for $335. The claim appeared four times.

   All four instances rewritten to a claim that does not depend on a price. A checker now compares prices printed in prose against our product records.

3. 2026-08-31 · Site-wide product data

   21 of 40 printed prices did not match what the marketplace was charging, some by a factor of two or more.

   All refreshed from live listing data, exact prices removed from prose and sticky bars where they cannot be maintained, and an automated price check added.

4. 2026-08-31 · /best-solar-generator-homestead

   The top-ranked power station could not be bought by any route. It had no marketplace listing and the manufacturer's own product page redirected to itself indefinitely.

   Moved into the labelled block for discontinued products with an explanation, and replaced with four current models verified against live listings.

5. 2026-08-31 · /best-cooling-vest-for-hunting-dogs

   The Ruffwear vest link pointed at a delisted item that returned nothing.

   Repointed to a current, verified listing of the same product.
